Spring Weather, the Luck 'o the Irish!

Here's how we spent our day yesterday; it was only 60, but felt like summer.
We had shamrock shakes with lunch.  Yum!

Christmas Day 2010

We celebrate Christmas day with Colin's family.  Here are some photo highlights from our day together.

From Grammy and Grampy:
a bed for Molly!

My first toaster oven!

Colin got slippers!

From Grammy and Grampy:
a digger that you can take apart with a battery operated screwdriver

Toy Blending: putting the screwdriver to sleep in Molly's new bed

We got a good deal on a used guitar for Elizabeth!

We had fresh snow on the ground Christmas morning, but didn't get to it until the afternoon!
My husband is a excellent snowball maker.

Christmas dinner was DELICIOUS!

Merry Christmas.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!

It snowed this week!
Not much, really, but enough to make my children happy.

first snowman of the season, short and sweet
snow t-ball!

more snow t-ball!
I love the berries on this tree.

This morning we attended a wreath making event with church ladies.
They kindly let E join in the fun!

I hope you've been enjoying these many photo posts.  As for substance, it's lacking these days.  I've been feeling pretty terrible (though off and on) all week, affecting my ability to beat my kids out of bed in the morning to be with the Lord before starting the day - the time during which I often find inspiration for blosts.  Thankfully He's with me the rest of the day, too!  We're never alone, right?  The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.  (John 1:14)

Hope your holiday season is of to a delightful and healthy start!

Miscellaneous

Did I mention that it's fall?!

Did I mention that this guy's been getting into trouble?

Did I mention we're glad to have this man in our lives?

Hope your day is bright, by God's grace! Here's a little poem we've been enjoying at our house, in case the weather is not so bright in your neck of the woods.

Weather
Whether the weather be fine
or whether the weather be not.
Whether the weather be cold
or whether the weather be hot.
We'll whether the weather,
whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not!

Little Punkins Pickin' Pumpkins

It's fall!

I don't have a favorite season; I love the change that comes with each one. Here I write to you in a sweatshirt and jeans; this time last week I sweating in shorts and a t-shirt. It's rainy and grey outside and I can't really get enough of it. (I know, it's messed up - feel free to comment.)

We attempted to apple pick a couple of weekends ago, but I'd misunderstood the website. There were apples galore, but in large containers in a sweet, little farm store. I was disappointed. Fortunately the pumpkins were ripe for the pickin'!

Yes folks, what you see below is a painted television with a Steelers game "on." Pittsburgh, how I love thee! Red Sox fans, you ain't got nothin' on Steelers fans.

It Rained Here

Prior to our beautiful weather this week, we had a weekend of rain. And by rain I'm referring to 6+ inches in 3 days. R-A-I-N, rain! Our playground transformed into a pond or swimming pool, and Monday morning I couldn't resist taking the kids out in their (quickly rendered useless) rain boots to find the deepest puddles. Boy, did we find them! Our friend, Inka*, caught the action in photos from her balcony.

Really, it's not too bad.

Let's go check out this corner,
it seems to be the most flooded.

Elizabeth headed further in to our left,
while Brian and I continued straight ahead.

She ended up with boots full of water;
we rescued her from a park bench.

This picture best displays the depth of the water on that far end of the playground. You can just see the tops of my boots.

Even more amazing: the playground was mud-free the following day and many moms and kids were out enjoying the 50 degree weather and sunshine we'd missed having over the weekend!

Snow & Eye-Fi

During Sunday's snowstorm, we celebrated our immediate family Christmas. (One set of grandparents arrives tomorrow afternoon with gifts from both sets; we don't want the kids to be completely overwhelmed on Christmas morning! And we want Elizabeth to register who gave her each thing. Do you even care?! Should I keep going with this parenthetical???) My gift from my very loving and very techie husband was an Eye-Fi card, an SDHC memory card with built in WiFi! So far it seems like it will be pretty sweet. When I want to write a blog post, the pictures and video will already be available; I won't have to fumble around with the card and wait for things to upload.

Here are some photos (from the old card) of time we spent in the snow. You'll note that Colin is absent for the revelry because the man is writing his thesis!!!!

Brian is getting used to a world with snow:

At first he preferred the cleared paths,

and learned how difficult it is to drive in the snow.

Elizabeth's extra height and years of experience give her an edge on enjoying the snow:

eat it,

make snow angels,

jump in it,

and slide really fast in your snowpants.

But most of all, just have fun!
